Different ways to pay out holiday pay (vakantiegeld)

How fixed hour contracts and on-calls save holiday pay. How to pay out holiday pay and how it gets paid out when someone is terminated. Also where to find the holiday pay and leave entitlement balances of all employees

Written by Lucas Schakel

How an employee gets their holiday pay depends on their contract and some settings.

Fixed hour contracts

Fixed hour contracts have their holiday pay saved each month (8% of their gross salary), to be paid out in May. You can adjust the percentage and pay out month in the pay settings per location (Settings > pick a location > Pay > Holiday allowance)

Holiday pay settings per location.

  • In the holiday pay settings you can also choose to pay out holiday pay for fixed hour contracts monthly.

  • In the holiday pay settings you can also choose if an employee with a fixed hour contract can decide themselves if they want their holiday pay to be paid out yearly or monthly. If you enable this, the employee can choose this setting in their app under Menu > Employment > Payout preferences

On-call contracts

On-call contracts get their holiday pay and leave entitlement (saved holiday hours balance for that month) paid out every month. This is not a setting, this is the default. Soigné will not change this. This is paid out against 8,85% over gross wage for holiday pay and 10,64% over gross wage for leave entitlement. Read more about how this is calculated here.

Pay out holiday pay on request

You can also pay out holiday pay on request. To do this go to the employee profile > Benefits > One-off benefits > Holiday allowance. Here you can pay out the saved holiday pay balance in a selected period. You can also pay out the saved leave entitlement balance for fixed hours contracts by clicking the 'Leave entitlement' payout.

Pay out when employee gets terminated

When an employee gets terminated, Soigné will automatically pay out the remaining holiday pay balance on the last payslip of the employee. If you already get your holiday pay monthly you won't notice anything different as there is no balance saved and you will just get your standard monthly holiday pay.

Where can I find an overview of all holiday pay and leave entitlement balances?

You can find all holiday pay and leave entitlement balances of your employees under Reports > Balances.

  • Statutory leave balance = wettelijke vakantie-uren (152 hours per year for a 38h contract)

  • Non statutory leave balance = bovenwettelijke vakantie-uren (38 hours per year for a 38h contract)
